Toxicology deals with the fate of drugs (including alcohol) once they enter the body, that is, how the body processes drugs, breaks them down (metabolism), stores them and excretes them.

Toxicology includes analysis and interpretation of body samples including blood, urine and tissue samples. Toxicology is common in serious cases such as murder, suspicious death, rape, assault as well as drink-driving related matters and drug driving.

Two common applications of toxicology are alcohol and drug driving.
